Access to Information Technology
Course information
This course is designed to help learners
acquire the knowledge and skills they will need to access formal
training, further education and employment.
Learners work in small groups of no more than
10, supported by a trainer. The learning environment is friendly,
supportive and informal. A Learner Support Worker is available to help
any learners experiencing problems. The course takes 19
weeks to complete. During this time, learners attend work placement for
a minimum of two weeks. Examples of possible work placements include
large and small companies in the private, voluntary and public sectors,
both locally, and in the City and West End. These placements allow
learners to gain practical skills and experience in the real world of
work. All learners have the support of a Work Placement Officer
throughout their work experience. Course subjects

Qualifications gained Certificate of achievement in Life Skills/CLAIT Certificate in Information and Communication Technology
Who is the course for? 16-19 year olds living in East London. No previous qualifications are needed for these courses.

| Course dates and times |
| Learners attend the course Monday to Thursday between 10am and 1pm, and Friday between 10am and 4pm. When on work placement, learners work to company hours. Most learners are given a place immediately. | |

| Equipment and resources |
| Learners on the Access to Information Technology programme have access to the IT Suite, photocopier, fax, internet, e-mail and reference/study facilities for academic and job search purposes. | |
